The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has called on Iran to refrain from targeting neighbouring countries amid the ongoing conflict with Israel and the United States.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Hamas acknowledged that Iran has the legitimate right under international law and norms to respond to the aggression launched against it. However, the group appealed to its “brothers in Iran” to avoid involving or striking neighbouring states in its retaliation.

The statement read: “According to international customs and laws, the Islamic Republic has the right to respond to this aggression in any way. However, Hamas calls on the brothers in Iran to refrain from targeting neighbouring countries.”

Earlier, on the first day of the war (28 February), Hamas had strongly condemned the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a “brutal crime.” In a statement immediately after his death, Hamas described Khamenei as someone who had provided “all forms of political, diplomatic, and military support to our people, our cause, and our resistance fighters.”

The appeal comes as the conflict—sparked by joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran—continues to escalate regionally, with concerns growing over spillover into neighbouring countries.
