The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has introduced a new mark distribution framework for the 2026 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations, as confirmed by the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board.

According to the updated guidelines, all subjects except three will be evaluated out of 100 marks. The question papers for each subject will clearly outline the allocation of marks across creative, short-answer, descriptive, and multiple-choice (MCQ) sections.

The following subjects will follow the 100-mark structure:

Bangla First Paper, Bangla Second Paper, English First Paper, English Second Paper, Mathematics, Science, Bangladesh and Global Studies, History of Bangladesh and World Civilization, Civics and Citizenship, Economics, Geography and Environment, Business Entrepreneurship, Islamic Studies, Hindu Religion Studies, Buddhist Religion Studies, Christian Religion Studies, Accounting, Finance and Banking, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Studies, Higher Mathematics, Home Science, Arts and Crafts, Music, Arabic, Sanskrit, Pali, and Basic Trade.

Three subjects will be assessed out of 50 marks:

Physical Education, Career Education, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

This new system will take effect for students currently in Class IX, starting with the 2026 SSC examinations. Education stakeholders believe these changes will significantly enhance students’ analytical abilities and deepen their understanding of subject matter.
