Sanu Akter Nodi, a student from the 2020-21 academic session in the Finance Department at Chittagong University (CU), has been honored with the ‘Unsung Women’ category award at the JCI Bangladesh Women of Inspiration Awards 2025. The recognition, presented by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Bangladesh, celebrates her contributions to education and women’s empowerment.

The award ceremony took place on Sunday, 27 July, at a convention center in the capital. JCI Bangladesh recognized 10 women across fields such as medicine, technology, business, fashion, entertainment, and sports during the 25th edition of the event. Legendary vocalist Runa Laila received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her cultural contributions, while Nodi was acknowledged in the ‘Unsung Women’ category for her tireless social work.

Hailing from Sholbon in Khagrachhari Hill District, Nodi grew up in a remote hilly area. She is associated with a social organization called ‘Ek Takay Shikkha,’ through which she provides free education to underprivileged children and distributes textbooks, notebooks, pens, and other educational materials. Beyond education, Nodi works as a young entrepreneur, striving for financial independence while creating local employment opportunities.

Expressing her feelings, Nodi said, “I was the only student among the awardees, representing Chittagong University with pride in the ‘Unsung Women’ category for my contributions to education and women’s empowerment. This is my first national award, and it still feels like a dream.” She dedicated the award to women who silently overcome adversities, adding, “I believe dreams are possible even from the remote hills of Khagrachhari. This award is not just a recognition but a symbol of dreaming big and having courage.”

Nodi emphasized her goal of ensuring education reaches every neglected child and urged young people to engage in social work, stating, “Change is not possible alone; we must come together.”

JCI, an international organization for young people aged 18 to 40, was founded in 1915 and is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. Operating in over 120 countries with more than 200,000 members, JCI Bangladesh currently has 44 local chapters focused on developing skills, knowledge, and leadership among youth through various initiatives. Congratulations to Nodi for her inspiring achievement.
