Julius Caesar Barred from DUCSU Election

The Dhaka University administration has upheld the cancellation of Julius Caesar Talukdar’s candidacy for the vice-president (VP) post in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, effectively barring him from participating in the polls scheduled for September 9.
The decision was confirmed by Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Proctor of Dhaka University, in a statement to The Daily Campus on Wednesday. He said, “The three-member committee formed by the Syndicate has upheld the decision to cancel Julius Caesar’s candidacy. As a result, he will not be able to contest in the DUCSU election.”
The university formed the three-member inquiry committee to investigate allegations against Talukdar following his exclusion from the final candidate list. The committee was established during a Syndicate meeting on August 27, with Associate Professor Kazi Mahfuzul Haque Supan from the Law Department appointed as its convener. The panel also included Professor Dr. Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuiyan from the Law Department and Advocate Syed Mohammad Raihan Uddin, the university’s legal advisor.
Talukdar’s candidacy was initially recommended for exclusion by the Tribunal Committee on August 24 due to alleged links to banned organizations and involvement in terrorist activities, a decision that was forwarded to the Syndicate for further action. The inquiry committee’s findings have now solidified the Syndicate’s stance, confirming that Talukdar will not be reinstated as a candidate.
The development has sparked discussions on campus, with the DUCSU election already under scrutiny due to recent controversies, including a temporary suspension by the High Court. The university administration remains focused on ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process as the campaign period continues.
