Hasib Quits BDSC Panel, to Run Independently for DUCSU AGS

Mohammad Hasibul Islam has withdrawn from the Bangladesh Democratic Student Council (BDSC) panel for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, announcing his decision to run independently for the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) position. Previously nominated by BDSC’s “Boishamyabirodhi Chhatra Sangsad” (Anti-Discrimination Student Council) panel for the Liberation War and Democratic Movement Secretary post, Hasibul declared his rebellion against the panel at the last moment, opting to contest for AGS as an independent candidate.
Hasibul Islam, a fourth-year Sociology student at Dhaka University, serves as the chief organizer of the DU branch of the Democratic Student Council, a new student organization formed after the fall of the previous government.
He has already released his election manifesto, stating, “I will ensure the DUCSU election for 2026 is held before September and permanently included in the university’s academic calendar, In Sha Allah. To achieve this just demand, I will take firm steps through policy forums and street movements.” His second manifesto point focuses on holding accountable the DU teachers who justified the July mass uprising’s violence, ensuring a comprehensive and impartial list of attacking Chhatra League members is prepared, and securing appropriate punishment from the university. He added, “Above all, I will continue awareness campaigns and movements among students to ensure the genocide-perpetrating Awami League never returns to politics.”
