The seven colleges—Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’ College, Government Bangla College, Government Titumir College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College—were affiliated with Dhaka University from February 17, 2017, until January 2025, following student protests over administrative inefficiencies. The interim government approved the formation of Dhaka Central University in March 2025, with the admission process authorized on July 9, 2025. The university will operate under a hybrid model, with 60% of classes in-person and 40% online, and one college principal will serve as interim administrator.
