Begum Rokeya University Bans Outsiders for 62 Hours Ahead of July Martyr’s Anniversary

Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) has imposed a 62-hour ban on external entry to its campus from 7:00 PM on 13 July to 9:00 AM on 16 July to ensure heightened security during the observance of the first martyrdom anniversary of Abu Sayed, a student killed during the quota reform movement, and ‘July Martyrs’ Day’ on 16 July.

The decision was announced in a notice issued on Saturday, 12 July, signed by the university’s Proctor, Dr. Md. Ferdous Rahman. According to the notice, only students, teachers, officers, and staff with valid ID cards will be permitted to enter the campus during this period. New students have been instructed to collect their ID cards promptly to comply with the directive.

The university is set to host a significant event on 16 July, attended by four advisers of the interim government: Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul (Adviser for Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment), Professor Dr. Choudhury Rafiqul Abrar (Adviser to the Ministry of Education), Syeda Rizwana Hasan (Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change), and Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Protik (Adviser to the Liberation War Affairs Ministry and Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief).

Other distinguished guests include Professor Dr. SMA Faiz, Chairman of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission, Siddique Zobair, Senior Secretary of the Education Ministry, and Professor Dr. Tanzimuddin Khan, a member of the UGC.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali confirmed that the main guest at the event will be Mokbul Hossain, father of the late Abu Sayed, along with 21 other representatives of martyred families.
