Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haq Milon has revealed that several new universities are currently awaiting government approval to join the country’s existing academic landscape. Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the "Pakistan-Bangladesh Knowledge Exchange Corridor" and "Education Expo 2026" today, Monday (May 11), the Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding and improving higher education.

Currently, there are 116 universities operating in Bangladesh. The Minister noted that among them, 57 are maintaining a high standard of quality education, while the new approvals will aim to further broaden academic access.

The inauguration ceremony, held at a five-star hotel in the capital, marked a significant step in regional academic collaboration. Minister Milon encouraged Bangladeshi students to explore higher education opportunities in Pakistan, highlighting the presence of several top-tier institutions there.

"Our students can prove their merit through competitive exams and secure opportunities for higher education in Pakistan. The Bangladesh government will provide full support in this process, and there are even opportunities for free education through various scholarships." — Education Minister Ehsanul Haque Milon

During the event, Pakistan's High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Syed Ahmed Maroof (representing the embassy’s initiatives), shared details regarding the "Pakistan-Bangladesh Education Expo."

  • Duration: The expo will run for the next 10 days.

  • Locations: Following Dhaka, the fair will travel to Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sylhet, and Chattogram.

  • Objective: To open new doors for the exchange of education, knowledge, and culture between the two nations.

The High Commissioner further noted that through bilateral Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), Bangladeshi universities have been invited to cooperate on high-level research and academic exchanges. This initiative is expected to strengthen the bond between the education sectors of the two countries, providing students and researchers with a broader platform for global academic engagement.

The Education Expo 2026 serves as a key platform for students to interact directly with representatives from international institutions and understand the requirements for cross-border academic pursuits.
