Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman has called for a unified global effort to eradicate racism and uphold human dignity. Addressing a commemorative meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Monday, he reaffirmed Bangladesh’s steadfast commitment to fighting racial discrimination in all its forms.

The meeting was held to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. According to a message received in Dhaka this morning, the Foreign Minister emphasized that Bangladesh remains a signatory to all major international conventions related to the prevention of racism.

Addressing Global Injustice

During his speech, Dr. Rahman highlighted the ongoing racial injustices in Rakhine and Gaza, noting that the international community is still far from achieving the goals set by the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action. He pointed out that systemic exclusion and exploitation continue to plague vulnerable populations across the globe.

The Foreign Minister also drew attention to the plight of migrant workers worldwide. He noted that many face severe challenges, including limited access to justice and various forms of exploitation, which directly contradict the core values of the United Nations.

Call for Inclusivity and Education

Reiterating the constitutional mandate of Bangladesh toward equality and human rights, Dr. Rahman urged for greater global investment in education to foster inclusivity and peaceful coexistence. He stressed the importance of taking decisive action against hate speech and enhancing intercultural dialogue as essential tools for building a world free from racial prejudice.

His remarks come as Bangladesh continues to strengthen its human rights institutions and promote a culture of tolerance both at home and on the international stage.
