Film actor Ashraful Haque Don was produced before a Dhaka court on Sunday afternoon by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following his arrest at dawn at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Case investigator CID Police Inspector Arifur Rahman petitioned the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Jewel Rana to keep Don confined in jail pending further legal procedures. Prosecution Department Sub-Inspector Shah Alam confirmed the court proceedings.

Authorities confirmed that Don was intercepted by immigration police while attempting to board a flight to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. Due to an active travel restriction tied to the ongoing murder investigation, immigration officers immediately alerted and handed him over to the CID.

The high-profile case stems from the tragic death of film icon Mohammad Shahriar (Emon), popularly known as Salman Shah, who died on September 6, 1996, at his Eskaton residence in Dhaka. Although initially logged as a suicide, renewed legal action led to a formal murder case filed on October 20, 2025, at Ramna Police Station by Md. Alamgir Kumkum on behalf of Shah's mother, Nilu Chowdhury.

The case names 11 individuals as accused, including Salman Shah's former wife Samira Haq, actor Ashraful Haque Don, Samira's mother Latifa Haq Lucy, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, David, Javed, Farooq, Ruby, A. Sattar, Saju, and Rezvi Ahmed alias Farhad. The CID is continuing its comprehensive investigation into the decades-old case.
