Hasnat Abdullah Intervenes to Reopen Nobin Fashion Amid Syndicate Allegations
Following a wave of public outcry and allegations of "syndicate" pressure, Nobin Fashion has announced it will resume operations across its branches. The announcement was made via the company’s official Facebook page on Wednesday, March 25, offering a major relief to customers ahead of the Eid festivities.
The clothing brand confirmed that a 15-day Eid festival will now take place at all its outlets, except for the Moghbazar branch. This development reportedly follows an intervention by Member of Parliament Hasnat Abdullah and the President of the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association, Helal Uddin.
"Through the initiative of Mr. Hasnat Abdullah MP and Mr. Helal, President of the Shop Owners Association, we have been able to keep our other branches functional," the company stated. Nobin Fashion also expressed deep regret over the forced closure of its Moghbazar branch on the eve of Eid.
Owner Leaves Country Citing Death Threats
The news of the reopening comes just hours after Enamul Hasan Nobin, the owner of the popular Punjabi brand, announced he was fleeing the country. On Tuesday night, Nobin shared a photo from Shahjalal International Airport, stating he could no longer risk his life against powerful market syndicates.
"I want to live like a lion, but I don't want to leave my children orphaned by syndicate bullets. That is why I am leaving the country," Nobin wrote in a social media post. During a press conference held earlier on Tuesday, he alleged that a syndicate had been pressuring him to fix prices—demanding he sell Punjabis for no less than 4,500 BDT and Pajamas for no less than 1,500 BDT.
Commitment to Fair Pricing and Charity
Nobin Fashion gained significant attention recently for selling high quality products at significantly lower prices than competitors. Enamul Hasan Nobin claimed his refusal to inflate prices led to threats and the forced closure of his shops. He further noted that the profits from his business are entirely dedicated to supporting the poor and providing medical treatment for the helpless.
While MP Hasnat Abdullah has not yet issued a formal statement regarding his reported role in the mediation, the brand’s Managing Director is expected to address customers via Facebook Live from China to exchange Eid greetings and provide further updates.
