Modi Claims BJP Set for ‘Historic Hat-Trick’ in 5-State Polls
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on the verge of a "historic hat-trick" across the five states currently holding assembly elections. Speaking during the second phase of polling in West Bengal, the Prime Minister highlighted the "fearless atmosphere" in the state, describing it as a triumph for India's robust democracy.
The Prime Minister made these remarks while inaugurating the 594-km-long Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district on Wednesday (April 29). He linked the anticipated success in the ongoing assembly polls to the BJP’s recent electoral victories in Bihar and Gujarat.
‘History Being Made in West Bengal’
Addressing the ongoing second phase of elections in West Bengal—where polling is underway for 142 seats—PM Modi expressed his gratitude to the voters. He noted that the massive turnout, which recorded 61.11% till 1:00 PM, reflects a shift toward a more secure electoral environment.
"Reports of massive voting are coming in from West Bengal. Just like the first phase, people are coming out of their homes in large numbers. Images of long queues are spreading on social media," the PM said. He further asserted that the state is witnessing something "unimaginable" compared to the last six or seven decades. "Voting in West Bengal is taking place in a fearless atmosphere. Common people are casting their votes without any fear."
Confidence in a ‘Hat-Trick’
Drawing parallels with past mandates, PM Modi cited the BJP-NDA’s "historic" win in Bihar and the recent sweep in Gujarat's local body elections, where the party won 80–85% of municipal and panchayat seats.
"I believe the BJP will achieve a historic hat-trick in the five-state elections. The results on May 4 will strengthen the resolve for a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India) and provide new energy to the pace of the country's development," he added.
Inauguration of the Ganga Expressway
The Prime Minister’s comments came during the high-profile launch of the Ganga Expressway, a six-lane greenfield corridor connecting Meerut to Prayagraj. Built at an estimated cost of BDT 52,000 crore (₹36,230 crore), the expressway is envisioned as an economic lifeline for 12 districts in Uttar Pradesh.
PM Modi emphasized that for rapid national growth, the country needs modern infrastructure like the Ganga Expressway, which will reduce travel time between eastern and western UP from 12 hours to just six.
As the second phase of polling continues in high-stakes West Bengal constituencies like Bhabanipur and Tollyganj, all eyes now turn to the counting day on May 4 to see if the Prime Minister’s "hat-trick" prediction holds true against the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
