The Bangladeshi community in Kobe hosted a grand Eid reunion, bringing together expatriates from across the Kansai region for a day of celebration and cultural connection. Organized by the Kobe Bangladesh Community, the event took place at the Komista Kobe Community Center, drawing a significant crowd of 256 attendees despite the rainy weather. The gathering served as a vital social link for Bangladeshis living in Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara, fostering a sense of home and shared heritage during the festive season.

A Celebration of Culture and Tradition

The program commenced with a solemn recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by Hamd-Naat and the rendition of the national anthem. Dr. Mehedi Hasan Khan, a former official of the Kobe City Government and current faculty member at Osaka University of Human Sciences, delivered the opening remarks, welcoming the diverse group of expatriates.

The day-long festivities were packed with a variety of entertainment segments, featuring live music, dance, comedy, a traditional drama, a lively women’s pillow-passing game, and an exciting coupon lottery. Attendees were also treated to a feast of authentic Bangladeshi flavors, including traditional Eid delicacies such as semai, polao, beef curry, and various other ethnic dishes.

The cultural segment featured a standout musical performance by Rumi Khondokar, a popular artist based in Osaka. Additionally, students Tarek Hasan and Wajiha Neha, who have recently risen to popularity within the local expatriate circle, captivated the audience with their dedicated dance routines.

Strengthening Local Ties and Community Spirit

The event was attended by Yu Nagata, a senior official of the Kobe City Government, who joined the gathering as a special guest. In his address, he lauded the initiative of the Kobe Bangladesh Community and expressed his admiration for the vibrant cultural display, noting a keen interest in participating in similar community events in the future. The reunion concluded with a closing speech by Sohel Chowdhury, a respected senior figure in the local Bangladeshi community, who thanked everyone for their participation.

Organizers highlighted that the success of this large-scale event was due to the tireless efforts of a dedicated group of young volunteers from the Kobe Bangladesh Community. Key contributors who worked behind the scenes included Ashiq, Saurav, Hasan, Minhaj, Protim, Miraj, Riel, Iqbal, Hridoy, Shariful, Noman, and Gaffar, among others. The community executives expressed strong hope that this reunion will set a precedent for continued social and cultural events, helping to keep the spirit of Bangladesh alive for those residing across Japan.
