Ad-Din Hospital License Cancelled
The government has cancelled the institutional license of Ad-din Medical College Hospital in the capital's Moghbazar area after the hospital authorities failed to provide a satisfactory response regarding the tragic deaths of six newborn babies.
Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr. Provat Chandra Biswas formally announced the decision during a press conference on Thursday afternoon. This administrative action follows an earlier statement on Wednesday by Health Minister Sarder Md. Sakhawat Hossain, who expressed complete dissatisfaction with the explanation provided by the Ad-din hospital management regarding the multi-infant fatality incident.
The regulatory intervention stems from an incident on May 27, when six newborns passed away between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM at the Moghbazar-based medical facility. Following the incident, an official probe committee was formed to investigate the matter. Concurrently, a show-cause notice was issued to the hospital's owner, Sheikh Mohiuddin, on behalf of the Director General of DGHS, questioning why the facility's license should not be revoked. The owner was granted a 72-hour window to submit a formal defense, with a strict deadline set for June 7 at 5:00 PM.
Prior to the cancellation order, the Health Minister had issued a clear warning during a press briefing held last Saturday at his official residence on Minto Road. The minister had explicitly stated that strict legal actions would be initiated against Ad-din Hospital in accordance with state laws if their response to the show-cause notice failed to satisfy the authorities. Following the final review of the hospital's submission, the health regulatory body found the explanation unacceptable and subsequently executed the complete cancellation of the institution's operating license.
