Nestled in a serene and well-organized environment, Averroes International School stands out as a beacon of academic excellence and moral grounding. The sight of young children joyfully engaging in the corridors, learning in a vibrant atmosphere, and returning to their nurturing classrooms reflects the school’s dynamic spirit. Beyond earning widespread acclaim within Bangladesh, Averroes has garnered international recognition for its holistic approach, excelling in academics, recitation, debate, sports, language proficiency, technology, and communication. With branch campuses in Lalmatia, Mirpur, and Uttara, the school has become a cornerstone of English-medium education in the capital.

Established in 2015, Averroes operates across nine expansive buildings, serving over 4,000 students from Playgroup to A-Level under the guidance of skilled educators. The institution employs over 300 teachers and 600 support staff, ensuring a robust learning environment. More than just modern education, Averroes places significant emphasis on Islamic values, fostering ethical, well-rounded citizens for over a decade.

“In 2018, our school was recognized as the Best Pre-School in Dubai, and we also received the Fastest Growing School award,” said Mohammad Anisur Rahman Shohagh, Managing Director of Averroes International School. “Our progress is driven by one goal: ensuring quality education at all costs.”

Beyond academic excellence, Averroes prioritizes moral and spiritual development. The school offers a Hifz program for Quranic memorization, Tarbiyah activities for ethical and spiritual growth, and specialized courses to equip students with practical life skills. Recognized by the Dhaka Education Board, Directorate of Education, Pearson Edexcel, Cambridge International, and the British Council, Averroes continues to illuminate the landscape of English-medium education. Students have earned accolades for outstanding academic results, with several achieving perfect scores.

The school also caters to students’ recreational needs, providing access to the Lalmatia Society playground for sports and physical activities. Annual sports competitions and picnics involving students, staff, and families foster community spirit. Following the globally renowned Cambridge curriculum, Averroes integrates Islamic values, with nearly 50 Hafiz teachers guiding students in Quranic and Hadith studies. Each student maintains a daily Salah record, submitted to class teachers, reinforcing spiritual discipline.

Parents express satisfaction with the school’s modern facilities, including well-equipped classrooms, a quality canteen, a library, and dedicated parent waiting areas. Averroes emphasizes both academic excellence and the practical application of Islamic principles in daily life.

Students from Averroes have secured admissions to prestigious global institutions, including UCL, LSE, Monash University, University of Melbourne, Western Sydney University, IIUM Malaysia, and UTM Malaysia, alongside top Bangladeshi universities and medical colleges. The school places special emphasis on proficiency in English, Bangla, and Arabic, ensuring students are well-prepared for global opportunities. Extracurricular activities, such as sports, debates, and music, further enhance students’ skills.

Averroes’ Early Years Program, Lower Secondary, and A-Level curricula provide comprehensive education. Students regularly participate in extracurricular activities, with dedicated sports facilities at Lalmatia Society playground ensuring ample opportunities for physical fitness. The school’s leadership is committed to nurturing future leaders equipped with quality education, ethical values, and critical thinking skills to contribute to national development.

Nabilah Raisa, an A-Level student, aspires to become an engineer and serve the nation. “What sets Averroes apart is its blend of modern education with moral values, something rare in English-medium schools,” she said. “The teachers have provided all the support I need to prepare for my engineering goals, and the emphasis on Quranic memorization is seamlessly integrated into our studies.”

Mahdi Sarwar, another A-Level student aiming to become a pilot, shared, “I’ve memorized five Juz of the Quran, and many of my peers have memorized 10, 15, or even the entire Quran. Since I dreamed of becoming a pilot, my teachers have guided me with relevant information and constant encouragement. We also have ample opportunities for sports and extracurricular activities, alongside academic and career guidance.”

Farhan Aleem, Academic Advisor and Head of Mathematics, emphasized, “Our goal is to prepare students for global competition by combining the British curriculum with Islamic education. Students have flexibility in course selection, allowing them to pursue additional subjects like Higher Mathematics alongside Economics. Career guidance is provided before O-Levels, ensuring tailored support.”

Mufti Kazi Ibrahim, Director of Averroes, stated, “After the closure of Dr. Zakir Naik’s Peace School, we established Averroes, with many of our teachers coming from that institution. Our mission is to provide quality English-medium education while instilling Islamic values, enabling students to understand and practice Islam. Many affluent families seek English-medium education but find moral education lacking elsewhere. Averroes addresses this gap, ensuring students receive both academic and ethical training.”

Addressing recent media criticism regarding ownership, Mohammad Anisur Rahman Shohagh clarified, “Since founding Averroes in 2015, we faced challenges from the then-government. Despite conspiracies and harassment, including a baseless digital law case against me, we remain steadfast in delivering quality education and Islamic values.” Regarding allegations of threats made by Sohail Shahriar, Senior Manager of Logistics and Distribution, he stated, “Claims that I threatened a Dhaka University student or SM Rakibuzzaman are entirely false and unproven. These are attempts to tarnish my political image as a Chhatra Dal activist.”

Averroes’ accolades include the 2018 Best Pre-School of the Year and Best School Chain of the Year awards in Dubai. Notably, Monash University in Australia recognizes Averroes as the only Bangladeshi school whose students are eligible for direct admission. With plans to establish Averroes University, the institution continues to set benchmarks in English-medium education.
