Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the relevant authorities to provide loans of up to 10 lakh BDT to students seeking higher education abroad. The initiative is specifically designed to assist students with the bank guarantee or solvency requirements often mandated by foreign institutions and embassies.

The announcement came from State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, Nurul Haque Nur, following a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Secretariat this Tuesday afternoon.

The State Minister noted that under the Premier's guidance, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment will facilitate these loans for students heading to destinations such as South Korea, Japan, China, and Germany. The Prime Minister has instructed that the Probashi Kallyan Bank (Expatriates' Welfare Bank) be the dedicated institution for disbursing these funds to ensure streamlined support for students.

Middle East Labor Market and Language Skills

Addressing concerns regarding the impact of ongoing regional instability in the Middle East on the labor market, the State Minister expressed optimism. He noted that while the Middle East constitutes a major portion of Bangladesh's labor market, the need for reconstruction in war-torn areas could actually create a surge in demand for Bangladeshi workers.

He further highlighted that the Prime Minister has placed significant emphasis on learning third languages. The State Minister pointed out that many Bangladeshi workers currently occupy low-paying roles simply due to language barriers. By acquiring proficiency in languages like Japanese or German, workers can secure significantly higher wages and better professional standing abroad.
