Bulldozers Target Muslim Institutions and Mosques Across UP

Authorities across several districts in Uttar Pradesh executed a series of demolition drives this week against mosques, madrasas, and other structures officially categorized as illegal constructions. The widespread administrative actions took place in districts including Ghaziabad, Varanasi, and Baghpat, where bulldozers were deployed to clear Muslim religious structures and educational institutions that officials maintained lacked necessary permissions or occupied disputed land.

The state administration defended the operations, asserting that the demolitions were strictly driven by violations of land-use regulations, construction codes, and government orders rather than religious targeting. Officials emphasized that enforcement campaigns would continue systematically against any identified illegal occupation of public land or unauthorized construction, regardless of the nature of the property involved.

Targeted Demolitions Across Multiple Districts

In Ghaziabad’s Dasna locality, local administration officials demolished Madrasa Arabia Islam under what was designated as an "anti-encroachment and enforcement" drive. Authorities stated that the action was finalized after a thorough examination of institutional records, maintaining that the entire process complied with established legal procedures and administrative mandates. A heavy contingent of police personnel was deployed at the site throughout the operation to preserve law and order and avert potential disturbances.

Concurrently, a late-night operation in Varanasi resulted in the demolition of the nearly 200-year-old Ajgaib Shaheed Mosque situated in the Rajghat area. The demolition was directly linked to the Kashi Model Railway Station redevelopment project. Railway and administrative officials stated that the ancient structure stood on railway-owned property and that prior legal notices had been served.

They added that the operation commenced only after a court decision cleared the legal path for the structure's removal. Representatives of the local Muslim community, however, expressed deep distress, noting that both the mosque and its adjoining graveyard held historical and religious significance spanning nearly two centuries.

Another demolition drive unfolded in Bopura village, located within the Baraut tehsil of Baghpat district. District officials reported that a joint investigation by the revenue and police departments, initiated after a formal complaint, concluded that construction work for a mosque and Madrasa Islamia Sabilul Falah was being executed without mandatory administrative approvals and permissions. Following the review of these investigative findings, authorities ordered the immediate dismantling of the structures, which was carried out under the direct supervision of police and administrative cadres.

Political Friction and Heightened Security

The targeted demolition of these long-standing religious and educational landmarks has sparked intense debates among political factions and local communities across Uttar Pradesh. While state and district administrations continue to characterize the operations as routine civic enforcement measures, critics and community representatives have openly questioned both the timing and the heavy-handed manner in which the structures were razed.

In the wake of the demolitions, security measures have been tightened significantly across all affected zones. Specialized police units continue to conduct active patrols to maintain the peace and prevent potential law-and-order complications as the Uttar Pradesh administration pushes forward with its state-wide campaign against unauthorized constructions and land encroachments.
