Naogaon University to Admit Students for First Time, Conditions Announced

Authorities of Naogaon University have started preparations to admit students in two departments for the first time. A total of 80 students will be admitted in the two subjects through three units. The admission test will be held through three units, according to a notice on admission signed by the university registrar.

The notice states that eligibility criteria and conditions unit-wise and department-wise for admission to the first-year honours classes in the 2025-26 academic year at GST cluster member Naogaon University have been published. It says a total of 40 students will be admitted in the Accounting (ACC) department through A (Science), B (Humanities) and C (Business Studies) units – 12, 8 and 20 respectively.

In the Law (LAW) department, 40 students will be admitted through the three units – 16, 20 and 4 respectively. Students passing the admission tests of the three units will get the opportunity to be admitted.

On December 10 last year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh gave approval to open the two departments at the university. Students will be admitted in the current academic year. UGC has permitted opening the two departments under the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Business Studies.

The information was conveyed in a notice signed by UGC Additional Director Dr Md Mohibul Ahsan on December 10. It states that approval has been given to open the two departments under the two faculties mentioned below from the 2025-26 academic year at Naogaon University subject to the following conditions. The two departments under the two faculties are Law department under Faculty of Law and Accounting and Information department under Faculty of Business Studies.

The conditions include:

  1. Subsequent steps regarding opening the departments and admitting students must be taken as per the recommendations of the inspection committee formed by UGC (where applicable).
  2. Necessary committees must be formed for admitting students and starting academic activities as per Naogaon University Act-2023 (if not already formed) and the commission must be informed in writing.
  3. Curriculum for Law and Accounting departments must be prepared, approved by the academic council and the commission must be informed in writing. All other related processes must be completed following the university's own act.
