With the holy festival of Eid-ul-Adha approaching in the last week of May, school and college teachers are concerned about whether they will receive their salaries for the month of May before the holiday. While the process for submitting salary bills for May has already commenced, the final disbursement remains dependent on high-level government directives.

Sources within the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) confirmed that teachers and employees can submit their salary bills through the online portal until May 13. Following this, a proposal for fund release will be sent to the Ministry of Education. However, the disbursement of May’s salary before the end of the month is not standard procedure and will require a special mandate from the Education Minister.

Under normal circumstances, government and MPO-enlisted employees do not receive the current month’s salary before the month concludes. However, exceptions are often made for major religious festivals. A DSHE official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, explained the administrative hurdles involved.

"Usually, officials do not receive the current month's salary mid-month. For MPO-enlisted teachers to receive May's salary before Eid, a special directive from the Education Minister is essential, alongside concurrence from the Finance Minister," the official noted. He further added that while the Directorate processes the paperwork, the initiative for such early payment must come directly from the Ministry.

The salary disbursement follows a structured digital process:

  1. Submission: Institutional heads submit online salary bills for their respective staff.

  2. Verification: DSHE verifies the bills and coordinates with the Ministry of Finance.

  3. Approval: Upon final approval from the Finance Ministry, funds are released to the designated banks.

The government has recently transitioned to this digital billing system to ensure transparency and timely processing of benefits for MPO-enlisted teachers. While the technical preparations are underway, teachers now wait for a formal announcement from the Ministry of Education to confirm if they will have their salaries in hand before the festive celebrations begin.
