Prime Minister to Reward High-Performing Teachers Nationwide
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced a new initiative to identify and reward high-performing teachers across the country. Speaking at the inauguration of the Deputy Commissioners' (DC) Conference today, Sunday (May 3) at around 11:30 AM, the Prime Minister emphasized the role of educators in nation-building and social progress.
Addressing the gathered administrators, the Prime Minister proposed a decentralized selection process to recognize excellence at the grassroots level. "If we select three to five teachers from each area—for instance, within Natore district—who have performed exceptionally well, the government will arrange for a reward or an award for them upon receiving their names," he stated. He noted that such initiatives foster a sense of collective responsibility and motivation within society.
The Prime Minister reiterated his administration's commitment to implementing all promises made in the election manifesto and the "July Charter," signed before the people, in a phased manner. During the session, he directed District Commissioners to remain prepared for duty in any part of the country to ensure effective governance.
Highlighting the current state of the nation, the Prime Minister acknowledged significant challenges, including rising poverty and unemployment. He remarked that many national institutions had been severely weakened in the past. However, he assured that the government is focused on finding solutions to these crises without increasing the suffering of the general public.
The Prime Minister’s announcement comes as part of a broader push to revitalize the education sector and restore institutional integrity. By involving District Commissioners in the selection of outstanding teachers, the government aims to create a merit-based culture within the education system that recognizes hard work and dedication even in the most remote areas of Bangladesh.
