Education Ministry Forms Committee to Enhance Secondary Education Quality
The Education Ministry has established a 10-member advisory committee, led by BRAC University Emeritus Professor Manzur Ahmed, to improve secondary education standards. The decision was notified in a recent office order from the ministry.
This follows the formation of a nine-member committee in October last year for primary and non-formal education, also headed by Professor Ahmed. That group submitted over 100 recommendations in February, including raising head teachers' grade by one step and abolishing assistant teacher posts in favor of new designations. However, most remain unimplemented, and partial ones have been sporadic.
The new committee, formed on October 21 but only now publicized, will advise on enhancing secondary education quality, management, structural development, and teaching-learning processes. It has three months to submit its report.
Members include: Prof Dr Muhammad Morshed, Associate Professor at DU Institute of Education and Research; Md. Belayet Hossain Talukder, former Additional Secretary, Secondary and Higher Education Division; Shahida Islam, former Chairman, Chattogram Education Board; Director (Secondary), Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education; Md.
