Three More Secondary Schools Nationalized in Bangladesh
The government has nationalized three additional MPO-registered secondary schools in Khulna and Narsingdi. This development was confirmed through three separate gazette notifications issued on Monday, May 19, by Rebeka Sultana, Deputy Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division (MAUSI) of the Ministry of Education.
The notifications specify that the schools involved are ‘Platinum Secondary School’ in Khalishpur Upazila, Khulna; ‘Alim-Eastern Secondary School’ in Phultala Upazila, Khulna; and ‘U.M.C. Adarsha Vidyalaya’ in Narsingdi Sadar Upazila. These institutions have been officially renamed ‘Platinum Government Secondary School,’ ‘Alim-Eastern Government Secondary School,’ and ‘U.M.C. Government Adarsha Vidyalaya,’ respectively.
According to the notifications, the teachers and staff of these institutions will be absorbed into the government system in line with prevailing rules and regulations. However, their positions will remain non-transferable. The nationalization process will be implemented as per the Nationalization Policy Guidelines, with government operations at these schools commencing from May 19, the date of the notifications.
Sources within the Ministry of Education revealed that additional MPO-registered schools across various regions of Bangladesh are planned for nationalization in phases, as part of the ministry’s ongoing initiatives.
Earlier this year, several other secondary schools were brought under government control. The most recent was Bawani Adarsha Vidyalaya in Demra, Dhaka, nationalized on April 30. In March, four prominent educational institutions were nationalized concurrently: Lalmatiya Housing Society Higher Secondary School in Mohammadpur, Dhaka; Rajshahi Patkal High School in Paba Upazila, Rajshahi; Amin Jute Mills High School in Panchlaish Thana, Chattogram; and Crescent Secondary School in Khalishpur Upazila, Khulna.
Data from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education indicates that the total number of government secondary schools in the country stood at 680. With the addition of eight schools over the past three months, this number has now increased to 688.
