The National Citizen Party (NCP) has dissolved the central committee of its women’s wing, Jatiya Narishakti, and announced a new partial committee, seven and a half months after the organisation was launched. The reshuffle removes Monira Sharmin from the organisation's top leadership, replacing her as convener with NCP lawmaker Mahmuda Alam Mitu, who previously served as member secretary.

Nusrat Tabassum, who held the post of chief organiser, the organisation’s third-highest position, has been appointed the new member secretary. The NCP announced the three-member partial committee on its verified Facebook page shortly after 12:15 pm on Sunday. Alongside reserved-seat MPs Mahmuda and Nusrat, Manjila Jhuma has been appointed chief organiser of Narishakti.

Jatiya Narishakti was launched on March 8, International Women’s Day. At the time, Monira was named convener, Mahmuda member secretary, and Nusrat chief organiser. A 53-member full committee was announced on April 18. The committee was dissolved on Sunday.

According to the notice, the existing committee was cancelled and a new partial convener committee approved under the instructions of NCP convener Mohammad Nahid Islam and member secretary Akhtar Hossain. The new committee has been directed to announce a full committee within the next 15 days.

In April, the NCP initially finalised Monira and Mahmuda as its nominees for reserved women's seats in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad. However, Monira's nomination papers were rejected during scrutiny by the Election Commission (EC).

Nusrat had also submitted nomination papers for a reserved seat, but they were initially not accepted because she attempted to submit them after the deadline. The EC later accepted her nomination following a court order. She was eventually elected as a member of parliament.

‘It Is the Party’s Decision’

Although Monira has been removed from the top leadership of Narishakti, she remains an NCP central joint convener. Mahmuda and Nusrat also hold the same position in the party. Manjila, the newly appointed chief organiser, serves as the NCP’s secretary for the liberation struggle and the Liberation War affairs.

According to party sources, Monira recently approached the NCP’s top leadership herself about stepping down from her responsibilities at Narishakti. The sources said coordination between Monira, Mahmuda and Nusrat had not been working smoothly, resulting in a degree of stagnation in the organisation’s activities.

Asked about the changes, Monira said, “It is the party’s decision. The party may be considering me for some other responsibility. Our two women MPs have joined the top leadership of Narishakti. I wish them all the best.”
