The government is set to publish the official holiday calendar for 2027, with five days of leave planned for Eid-ul-Fitr, six days for Eid-ul-Azha and two days for Sharadiya Durga Puja. The Cabinet is expected to approve the holiday schedule at its meeting, after which the Ministry of Public Administration may issue a notification on Wednesday (November 4).
According to sources at the Ministry of Public Administration, the holiday arrangements for the two Eid festivals and Durga Puja will remain the same as in 2026. For Eid-ul-Fitr, the main festival day will be a public holiday. In addition, the government will grant four days of holidays through executive orders, including two days before Eid and two days after it, bringing the total holiday period to five days.
For Eid-ul-Azha, the main festival day will also be a public holiday. Government employees will receive another five days off through executive orders, including two days before the festival and three days after it. This will bring the total holiday period to six days.
For Sharadiya Durga Puja, Bijoya Dashami will be a public holiday, while Maha Navami will be observed as a holiday through an executive order. Together, the two days will make up the holiday period for the festival.
According to the sources, Bangladesh will have a total of 29 public holidays in 2027, combining general holidays and holidays granted through executive orders. Of these, seven days will fall on the weekly holidays of Friday and Saturday.
The Cabinet approved the 2026 holiday calendar at a meeting on November 2, according to the information provided by the sources. The 2027 calendar will include 15 general holidays and 14 holidays granted through executive orders. Of the general holidays, four will fall on weekly holidays, while three of the executive-order holidays will coincide with weekends.
