Engineer Ishraq Hossain, BNP nominated candidate for Dhaka-6 constituency and convener of Nationalist Liberation War Generation, has expressed regret over a video clip that has sparked discussion and criticism. In the video from a recent programme at Ziaur Rahman's grave, he is seen pushing aside other leaders and activists to stand beside BNP Senior Joint General Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

On Monday (22 December) night, he posted about the matter on social media. The post given by him is reproduced verbatim for readers:

‘I express gratitude to Almighty Allah for being elected convener of ‘Bangladesh Nationalist Liberation War Generation’ and seek prayers from all. With all members of the newly formed committee, we went to pay tribute and recite Fateha at the grave of martyr President Ziaur Rahman. In this programme, BNP Joint General Secretary Rizvi Ahmed was present as chief guest and Liberation Fighters Party President Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat as special guest.

As per prior plan, it was decided that during tribute as per protocol, convener and member secretary of newly formed generation committee would stand on both sides of chief guest and special guest, which would be published in media later. Due to huge interest and gathering of leaders and activists in the entire programme, I had to take somewhat strict position while maintaining serial.

As convener, implementing instructions of central leadership and ensuring their comfort and security is my responsibility. Therefore, if anyone feels hurt seeing the video present at the spot or spread on social media, I sincerely express regret.

At present time, great responsibility falls on ‘Liberation War Generation’ organisation. On one hand, carrying consciousness and presenting true glorious history of liberation war tarnished by looters and mass killers of Bangladesh to new generation, on the other hand, strictly stopping outbursts of those who still cannot accept liberation war, who still do not accept Bangladesh's independence from heart.

In course of time, truth will be revealed and justice will be ensured, Insha'Allah. Bangladesh Zindabad.’
