Hadi Had Earlier Anticipated He Might Die While Travelling by Rickshaw

Sharif Osman Hadi, potential MP candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency and spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho, had earlier expressed fear of being killed in a rickshaw. He mentioned this apprehension in an interview given to the media.

Hadi said it is possible to arrange contract killing for Tk 5,000 in a place like Bangladesh. The way I travel in rickshaw, if anyone gives money to any drug addict, they will stab me and leave. The way Awami League brings people to processions, do all Awami League leaders and workers stay there! One or two stay, all people are brought to procession for two minutes by giving Tk 5-10 thousand. Then whoever is caught is taken to police station.

He said many ask when our society and politics will change. No matter how good words you say, how many TV programmes you do—no benefit of even one paisa will happen until our economic capability is created. Until extreme poverty is removed from people, it is not possible to get a very good state. Because extreme poverty encourages people to become corrupt and crime-prone.

Earlier, on 12 December, Hadi was shot from behind from a motorcycle while in a moving battery-run rickshaw in Box Culvert Road of old Paltan in the capital. Head-shot Hadi was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital. On Monday, he was taken to Singapore by air ambulance. While undergoing treatment there, Sharif Osman Hadi died around 9:45 pm last Thursday night.
