Independent candidate Osman Hadi shot in Dhaka
Independent candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency and spokesperson of Inqilab Manch, Sharif Osman Hadi, was shot during election campaigning in the capital's Bijoynagar area on Friday (12 December).
Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp in-charge Md Faruk confirmed the incident to The Daily Campus: "Osman Hadi was brought here a while ago. He is currently in the emergency department."
Eyewitnesses said two persons on a motorcycle fired at him after Jummah prayers and fled the scene. He was immediately rushed to DMCH emergency.
Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Muhammad Talebur Rahman said: "Around 2:25 pm, miscreants arrived on three motorcycles. From one of them, shots were fired at Osman Hadi before they escaped."
Earlier, at 11:52 am before Jummah prayers, Osman Hadi posted on Facebook: "Since there are no posters or festoons of mine in Dhaka-8, I don't have to worry about tearing them down. Jummah Mubarak from in front of the DUDOK office."
Osman Hadi is contesting as an independent in the upcoming national election. The motive behind the attack is not yet known. Police are investigating.
