Family plans to fly Khaleda Zia to London for treatment: Mahdi Amin
The Zia family is preparing to take BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to London for advanced treatment as soon as her condition shows slight improvement, a close aide has disclosed.
Mahdi Amin, adviser to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, revealed the plan in a verified Facebook post on Saturday (29 November).
He wrote that although Khaleda Zia remains admitted at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, her treatment is being managed by a combined team of local and foreign specialists. Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, both based in London, are in constant contact with the doctors and giving necessary instructions round the clock.
Dr Zubaida Rahman is playing a key coordinating role in the medical board. Tarique Rahman is personally overseeing every step to ensure there is no delay or limitation in his mother’s treatment, Mahdi added.
Large numbers of party leaders and activists gather daily outside the hospital to inquire about the leader’s health, but no one is being allowed inside the CCU due to infection risks. People are expressing their love and concern from a distance, he said.
Mahdi further stated that arrangements are underway to shift Khaleda Zia to London once her condition stabilises even slightly. Contact has already been established with the same hospital and doctors who treated her for four months earlier this year, when she showed significant improvement. A state-of-the-art air ambulance equipped with the latest medical technology is also being arranged.
Expressing optimism, he said the prayers and affection of the nation will help Begum Zia recover quickly. After receiving advanced treatment, she will once again inspire the people, provide leadership, and play her role in uniting the nation.
