While primary, secondary, and higher secondary educational institutions across the country will enjoy a three-day consecutive holiday from Sunday (12 April) to Tuesday (14 April), madrasas will observe only one day off.

According to the annual holiday list:

  • 12 April — Boisabi Festival
  • 13 April — Chaitra Sankranti
  • 14 April — Pohela Boishakh

Normal classes will resume on Wednesday (15 April).

However, the Madrasa Education Directorate has clarified that madrasas will remain closed only on 14 April for Pohela Boishakh. There will be no holiday on 12 and 13 April for madrasa students.

A senior official of the Madrasa Education Directorate, Mohammad Arifur Rahman Majumder, told The Daily Campus that Pohela Boishakh is a widely observed Bengali cultural festival relevant to all communities. However, Boisabi and Chaitra Sankranti are primarily linked to specific ethnic and religious groups, and therefore not equally relevant for madrasa students, who are mainly engaged in religious education.

He added that while different communities have their own festivals and traditions, madrasas prioritise holidays that align with their educational environment and broader national cultural observances.
