A solitary goal was enough to seal national glory as Bankerhat Government Primary School from Bhola, Barishal division, defeated Trishal Government Primary School from Mymensingh 1-0 to secure the champion's trophy in the boys' category of the Primary School Gold Cup Football Tournament.

The high-stakes final match unfolded today, Saturday (June 20), at the Bangladesh Army Stadium, serving as the grand finale to the nation's largest primary education sports competition. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is the chief guest who will handing over the championship trophies to the young footballers.

Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, and the Prime Minister’s Education and Primary and Mass Education Advisor Mahdi Amin were also in attendance to witness the intense showdown.

The boys' final proved to be a defensive masterclass mixed with clinical finishing. Facing a formidable side from Trishal's Dorirampur Model Government Primary School, the young footballers from Bhola managed to break the deadlock and hold on to their narrow 1-0 advantage until the final whistle. The victory sends the national crown back to the Barishal division after a grueling tournament path.

A Massive Nationwide Scouting Initiative

The tournament stands as a historic milestone for youth sports development in Bangladesh. Speaking at a press briefing ahead of the finals, PM Advisor Mahdi Amin shared detailed structural insights regarding the sheer scale of the competition.

The tournament kicked off on April 6, spanning nearly two and a half months of competitive play across multiple administrative tiers. A staggering cohort of over 1.1 million boys and 1.1 million girls from 65,342 government primary schools across the country participated in the tournament. The young athletes advanced sequentially through union, upazila, district, and divisional qualifiers before earning their place in the Dhaka finals. The administration has explicitly stated its long-term objective to scale the tournament further, aiming to involve at least 5 million students in subsequent editions.

The Girls' Final Matchup

Alongside the boys' absolute thriller, the tournament also determined its champions for the girls' division. That separate block featured a highly competitive fixture between Achargaon Government Primary School from Nandail, Mymensingh, and Jorgacha United Government Primary School from Santhia, Pabna, to decide the ultimate national crown.
