‘I Didn’t Make the Team’: Indian Cricketer Dies by Suicide
A 17-year-old female cricketer, identified as Aditi Chaukhande, has died by suicide in Nagpur, Maharashtra, after reportedly failing to secure a spot in the regional Vidarbha Cricket Association team.
Police recovered her body hanging at her residence in the Laxminagar area of Nagpur on Wednesday around 5:30 AM. A handwritten note recovered from the scene read: "I didn't make the team."
According to police sources, Chaukhande hailed from Akola, Maharashtra, and had been residing in Nagpur with her mother for the past two years to undergo professional cricket training at a local academy. Her brother is also a professional cricketer.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the young athlete fell into severe emotional distress after her name was omitted from the recently published Vidarbha squad.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for an autopsy to determine the exact circumstances, with a detailed investigation currently underway.
