World Cup to Be Streamed Digitally in Bangladesh, Here’s How to Watch
Ending months of prolonged uncertainty over how local audiences will tune into the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, Bangladeshi football enthusiasts can now breathe a sigh of relief. The tournament's matches will be made available for live streaming via digital platforms across the country.
Leading telecom operator Banglalink has officially announced that it has secured the digital broadcasting rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Under this agreement, all matches of the tournament will be streamed live through Banglalink's proprietary video streaming platform, the Toffee app. This development ensures uninterrupted access for mobile and digital users despite ongoing ambiguities surrounding traditional television broadcasts.
Subscription Requirements and Technical Standards
The corporate authorities noted that viewing the live tournament on the Toffee app will require users to subscribe to specific internet packages. However, the precise structural details, tier options, and pricing of these packages have not yet been fully disclosed to the public.
Commenting on the acquisition, Taimur Rahman, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer at Banglalink, stated in an official brief that securing these rights will allow millions of football lovers across the nation to enjoy the World Cup from anywhere. He added that the network's robust digital infrastructure and technological capabilities will ensure a seamless, high-quality live-streaming experience for all active users.
Television Broadcasting Rights Remain Uncertain
While the digital streaming landscape has been settled, the broadcasting rights for local terrestrial and cable television channels in Bangladesh remain unfinalised. Consequently, viewers intending to watch the global sporting event on traditional TV or larger screens will have to wait longer, as no official announcements have been made by the relevant television networks.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to kick off on June 11 across three host nations: the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with the grand finale locked for July 19. The upcoming edition marks a historic milestone as it expands to feature 48 competing nations for the first time, significantly increasing the total number of matches and introducing an array of new gameplay regulations. While viewers navigate the evolving broadcast media landscape, the confirmation of digital streaming brings a welcome alternative for the country's passionate football fanbase.
