Bangladesh reach their highest FIFA ranking in nine years after defeating India
Bangladesh national football team received a major boost in the latest FIFA rankings, just a day after defeating India in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. The Tigers rose three places to 180th with 911 rating points in the rankings updated on Wednesday night (19 November), marking their best position in nine years.
The 17-point gain comes from the 1-0 victory over India on 18 November, ending a 22-year winless streak against their South Asian rivals. Bangladesh's previous high was 177th in March 2016.
India, meanwhile, lost 18 points and dropped six spots from 136th to 142nd after the defeat in Dhaka. Nepal slipped two places to 182nd, though their friendly against Bangladesh is not yet reflected.
At the top, no changes in the first four spots: Spain remains No.1, followed by Argentina, France, and England. Brazil climbed to fifth, displacing Portugal (down to sixth) and the Netherlands (seventh). Germany and Croatia moved up one spot each to ninth and tenth.
Brazil's rise was fueled by a win over Senegal and a draw against Tunisia in friendlies. Bangladesh now has five points from five matches (two draws, one win) in Group A of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, sitting third.
