The government is prioritizing the professional quality and economic empowerment of primary school teachers to elevate their social status, said Mahdi Amin, Advisor and Spokesperson to the Prime Minister. Speaking today, Tuesday (May 12), at a national workshop organized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), he highlighted that the future of the curriculum is digital and teacher-centric.

The workshop, titled “Transforming Higher Education in Bangladesh: Roadmap to Sustainable Excellence,” was held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka, where UGC Chairman Professor Mamun Ahmed detailed the roadmap for educational reform.

Addressing the social standing of educators, Mahdi Amin noted that primary teachers in Bangladesh have historically lacked the prestige they deserve. He announced that the government is tackling this through the "One Teacher, One Tab" scheme.

"Under the Prime Minister's leadership, teachers will be economically empowered and their dignity raised," he stated. "Through the tablet computer scheme, their training will be enhanced, allowing them to provide education at an international standard. The highest priority is being given to improving the quality and benefits of public primary school teachers to change their fortunes."

The Advisor emphasized that for the last three months, the government has been working tirelessly to fulfill the promises made in the election manifesto. He identified the nation's youth as a critical asset that must be transformed into a skilled workforce.

"Education is the backbone of the nation. We have a massive demographic dividend—a large population of young men and women. To build the Bangladesh of the future and reflect public expectations, we must make our youth more capable and skilled," Amin added.

Responding to concerns about unemployment, the Prime Minister’s Advisor linked educational reform with industrial growth. He explained that many skilled individuals are currently unemployed due to the closure of factories in the past.

He assured that the government plans to gradually reopen every sugar mill, jute mill, and related industry in the coming years. "This revival will ensure employment for millions of people, aligning our skilled human resources with industrial demand," he concluded.

The session was attended by Education Minister A.N.M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan, along with vice-chancellors and academics from various universities across the country.
