The official board of directors election for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) concluded under a relatively calm and predictable atmosphere on Sunday. Held at the board room located within the BCB headquarters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, voters actively turned up to cast their ballots.

The voting window officially commenced at 10:00 AM and wrapped up at 4:00 PM, followed by a continuous two-hour vote-counting process that concluded at 6:00 PM. While voter turnout was sparse during the early hours—with the very first ballot taking nearly 45 minutes to be cast—the presence of voters picked up significantly as the day progressed.

This election marks the second time the country's cricket governing body has gone to the polls in a short span of eight months. Previously, a BCB election was staged on October 6, 2025. However, following widespread allegations of irregularities and vote-rigging, the National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led BCB committee on April 7. On the exact same day, an 11-member ad-hoc committee was constituted, appointing former national captain Tamim Iqbal as its president.

Landslide Victory for Tamim in Fierce Club Category Contests

The Dhaka club category witnessed the most intense battle of the day, where 16 candidates contested for 12 director positions. Newly elected director Tamim Iqbal, representing Old DOHS, emerged as the undisputed frontrunner by securing the highest number of votes with 73 ballots out of the 74 cast. Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed of Fair Fighters and Israfil Khosru of Axiom Cricketers locked in the second-highest spot by securing 72 votes each. Out of a total of 76 eligible votes in the club category, 74 were officially cast, including 39 digital e-votes submitted before the Sunday 1:00 PM deadline.

A breakdown of the successful directors and their respective vote counts from the club category shows a competitive distribution of support. Tamim Iqbal of Old DOHS secured 73 votes, while Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed of Fair Fighters and Israfil Khosru of Axiom Cricketers both secured 72 votes. Masuduzzaman of Mohammedan followed with 70 votes, and Yasir Mohammad Faisal Ashik of Dhanmondi Sports Club registered 68 votes. Fahim Sinha of Abahani and Shanian Tanim of Mariners Youngs each obtained 66 votes. Asif Rabbani of Shinepukur secured 64 votes, Mirza Yasir Abbas of Azad Sporting finished with 63 votes, Rafiqul Islam Babu of Indira Road Krira Chakra achieved 53 votes, and Professor Dr. Sarkar Mahbub Hossain Shamim of Dhaka Wanderers Club secured 41 votes. Sakif Ahmed Salam of Purbachal Sporting Club was also among the elected directors from this highly competitive pool.

Conversely, four candidates suffered defeats after failing to cross the structural threshold required to make it into the top 12. Among the defeated pool, Syed Borhanul Hossain Pappu of Tejgaon Cricket Academy pulled 40 votes, Amzad Hossain of Tri-State Cricketers secured 32 votes, Fayazur Rahman Mitul of Uttara Cricket Club registered 23 votes, and Major Imroz of Kathalbagan Crescent Club finished at the bottom with 20 votes.

Bypassing Contests: Directors Elected Uncontested

While the Dhaka club tier saw hard-fought battles, a significant segment of directors had already booked their spots on the board completely uncontested across Category-1 and Category-2. Under the regional and district quotas, Counselor Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury of the Sylhet Divisional Sports Association, Counselor Mir Shakrul Alam Shimanto of the Bogra District Sports Association, and Mirza Faysal Amin of the Thakurgaon District Sports Association were all elected without opposition.

Similarly, from the Dhaka division, Sayeed Bin Zaman and S.M. Abdullah Al Fuad cruised to victory uncontested. In Category-3, Sirajuddin Md. Alamgir stood as the lone candidate to submit a valid nomination paper, securing his position as director automatically. Following the announcement of the final 24-member board of directors, the newly formed body is scheduled to convene at 7:00 PM to cast their internal votes for the ultimate election of the BCB President and Vice-President.
