HSC Candidates Attempt Road Blockade in Uttara During 'Long March'
Pressing forward with their three-point charter of demands, including the immediate resignation of Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon, protesting Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) candidates attempted to block a major thoroughfare in the capital's Uttara area today. The demonstration was organized as part of the students' pre-announced "Long March to the Education Ministry" program.
On-the-ground observations from mid-day showed heavily reinforced security measures across strategic points in Dhaka. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) platoons were seen deployed at the Nilkhet intersection, while a strong contingent of police personnel took up active positions at the Science Laboratory crossing. The law enforcement agencies have remained on high alert since 12:00 PM on Wednesday (July 15) to prevent any major disruptions to public order.
Street Activism Amid Scheduled Exams
Despite the ongoing street agitations and calls for boycotts, the seventh day of the HSC and equivalent examinations was successfully conducted today across 59 districts of the country. Following the conclusion of today's theoretical papers, demonstrating students called for a series of coordinated protests and rallies in Dhaka and other major districts.
Prior to today's action, student coordinators had announced plans to assemble at several designated transit points across the capital—including in front of the BNS Center in Uttara, Shahbagh, Science Laboratory, and Moghbazar—before marching collectively toward the Shikhsha Bhaban (the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education). However, field reports indicate that the massive gathering did not materialize as extensively as planned across all the designated spots, with security forces quickly containing the localized gathering attempts.
