In a major administrative blunder, 100 HSC examinees of the 2026 batch mistakenly sat for their Bangla 2nd Paper examination using the 2025 syllabus question paper at the Government Ashek Mahmud College center in Jamalpur on Saturday.

The affected students belong to the Government Zaheda Safir Mohila College. The discrepancy came to light only after the three-hour examination concluded, triggering intense anxiety and frustration among the examinees regarding their final grades.

The incident occurred in room number 4202 of the Government Ashek Mahmud College center on Saturday morning (July 4). Following the conclusion of the exam, the students noticed that their question papers explicitly stated "According to the 2025 Syllabus."

Tila Jamali, an affected examinee, expressed her frustration:

"After finishing the exam, I saw that my question paper was based on the 2025 syllabus. That means it wasn't meant for us. I prepared for two years just for these three hours. What is the guarantee that my 'A+' won't be ruined because of their mistake?"

Another student, Nusrat Jahan, shared similar anxieties, pointing out that while the rest of the country answered one uniform question paper, their group of 100 had to answer a completely different set. She expressed deep uncertainty over whether they would even pass the examination.

Responding to the situation, Professor Mir Shaukat Ali Mir, Principal of Government Ashek Mahmud College, explained that the question papers arrive in sealed bundles of 20.

"The five bundles opened for room 4202 explicitly had 'HSC Exam 2026' printed on the outer packaging," the Principal stated. "Since invigilators cannot inspect the contents before the designated exam time, they distributed them as scheduled. It was only afterward we discovered that the inside papers were meant for irregular and improvement candidates under the 2025 syllabus."

Principal Mir Shaukat Ali added that the college administration immediately contacted the education board upon discovering the error.

"The Board has instructed us to package the answer scripts of these 100 students separately. Their scripts will be evaluated leniently and strictly in accordance with the 2025 question paper structure they answered, ensuring no student faces academic disadvantage," he reassured.

A total of 69 irregular and improvement candidates sat for the Bangla 2nd Paper exam at this center on Saturday, alongside more than 900 regular candidates.

This incident follows a similar administrative lapse on Thursday during the Bangla 1st Paper exam in Narsingdi, where over a hundred students across two centers were mistakenly provided old syllabus MCQ papers. In that instance, the local administration promptly relieved six invigilators of their duties and initiated disciplinary actions against the center secretary.
