Stop Switching Your Office AC On and Off Before It’s Too Late

Many people believe switching the office air conditioner on and off all day saves power. In windowless, poorly ventilated offices this habit quietly destroys the machine and harms everyone’s health.

Every restart forces the compressor to work harder. The sudden power surge stresses the entire system, cuts efficiency, and shortens the unit’s life. Repair costs rise and the AC will need replacement much sooner.

Constant cycling also creates uncomfortable hot and cold patches. The room never settles at a pleasant temperature, leaving workers irritated and less productive.

Health takes a bigger hit. Sharp temperature swings irritate the throat and lungs, worsen allergies, and trigger asthma attacks. When the AC stays off for long stretches, moisture builds up inside the unit and ducts, allowing mould and bacteria to grow. The next time it starts, those germs blow straight into the room. More staff fall sick with colds, coughs, headaches, dry eyes, and skin problems.

Stagnant air raises carbon dioxide levels, making people drowsy and unable to focus. Dust and bad smells build up quickly when airflow keeps stopping and starting.

What to do instead

  1. Set the AC to a steady 23-25°C and let it run continuously.
  2. Use fans to move air around evenly.
  3. Clean or replace filters regularly and arrange professional servicing at least once a year.
  4. Whenever possible, open windows briefly or step outside for short fresh-air breaks.

Running the AC steadily at a moderate temperature is actually cheaper in the long run, keeps the office comfortable, protects health, and makes the unit last longer.

Stop the on-off habit today. Your AC, your lungs, and your colleagues will feel the difference immediately.
