CU scraps ward quota, cuts nearly 20pc seats
Chattogram University (CU) has published the admission circular for first-year honours courses under the 2025-26 academic session. Compared to the previous year, the total number of seats has been reduced by nearly 20 per cent. Alongside this, the "ward quota" reserved for children of teachers, officers and employees has been completely abolished for the admission tests.
According to the published circular, online applications will be accepted from students who have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or equivalent examinations for appearing in the admission tests under various units and sub-units. The application fee, including processing charge, has been fixed at Tk 1,000 for each unit or sub-unit.
Aspiring candidates must follow the "online application process" available on the university's admission website https://admission.cu.ac.bd. Applications will begin on 1 December (Monday) and continue until 15 December (Monday). Students can submit the application fee until 17 December.
Department-wise seat distribution
Under "A" Unit (Science faculties): Chemistry and Physics departments have 100 seats each (total 200); Mathematics 95; Statistics 80; Applied Chemistry & Chemical Engineering and Environmental Science 35 each (total 70); Forestry 40; Zoology and Botany 60 each (total 120); Computer Science 65.
In addition, Electrical & Electronic Engineering has 55 seats; Geography & Environmental Studies, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Soil Science, Psychology, Pharmacy and Marine Science have 40 each (total 280); Oceanography and Fisheries have 30 each (total 60).
Under "B" Unit (Faculty of Arts and Humanities): Bangla, History, Philosophy, and Islamic History & Culture have 100 each (total 400); English 80; Linguistics 40; Persian Language & Literature 40; Sanskrit 60; and Bangladesh Studies 70 seats.
Under "C" Unit (Faculty of Business Administration): Accounting and Finance have 100 each (total 200); Management, Marketing, and Banking & Insurance have 80 each (total 240); Human Resource Management 70 seats.
Under "D" Unit (Faculty of Social Sciences): Law, Political Science and Sociology have 100 each (total 300); Economics, Public Administration, International Relations, and Institute of Education & Research have 80 each (total 320); Communication & Journalism and Anthropology have 60 each (total 120); Development Studies and Criminology & Police Science have 40 each (total 80).
Additionally, under B-1 sub-unit: Drama, Fine Arts and Music have 40 seats each (total 120). Under B-2 sub-unit: Arabic and Islamic Studies have 100 each (total 200); Pali 60 seats. Under D-1 sub-unit: Physical Education & Sports Science has 40 seats.
Like last year, the admission tests for the main units will be held in three divisional cities at Dhaka University, Rajshahi University and Chattogram University. However, the tests for the three sub-units will be conducted only on the Chattogram University campus, the circular said.
