All Agree on Raising Govt Job Entry Age to 32 via Ordinance; Proposal for 35 Also Floated
The parliamentary special committee has agreed with the interim government’s ordinance to raise the entry age limit for government jobs from 30 to 32 years.
Opposition Whip and Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Rafiqul Islam Khan disclosed this after the committee meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday (24 March).
Jamaat MPs proposed raising the age limit to 35 years. The ruling party responded that everyone is in agreement on increasing the age limit and suggested that a fresh bill could be placed in Parliament on the matter.
Sources said the meeting discussed the ordinance that increases the age limit for direct recruitment in government, autonomous, statutory, public non-financial corporations, and autonomous bodies from 30 to 32 years. Jamaat MPs proposed setting it at 35.
The ruling party said: “All sides agree on increasing the age limit. This can be brought as a new bill in Parliament.”
Jamaat leader and MP Rafiqul Islam Khan said: “The committee is unanimous on keeping the job entry age at 32 years. Further discussion will be held on the Enforced Disappearances (Prevention and Remedy) (Amendment) Ordinance-2026 and the Police Commission Ordinance-2025. A total of 133 ordinances were discussed in the meeting, and consensus has been reached on many issues.”
He added: “The committee has agreed to place most of the discussed ordinances before Parliament in the form of recommendations. On the first day, 27 ordinances were discussed. Except for five, consensus has been reached on the majority of them.”
