They can question us anytime, and our job is to deliver: VP Shadik

Md. Abu Shadik, the newly elected Vice President (VP) of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), has pledged to prioritize students’ aspirations and ensure accountability in their leadership. Speaking after paying respects at the graves of July movement and 1971 Liberation War martyrs in Rayerbazar on Thursday, Shadik said, “Fulfilling students’ expectations is our primary task. They can question us anytime, and our job is to deliver.” The visit marked the official launch of activities for the United Students’ Alliance panel, which secured a sweeping victory in the recent DUCSU election. Shadik emphasized that formal duties will begin once the panel assumes office, but their immediate focus is honoring the sacrifices of martyrs.
Shadik highlighted the significance of Dhaka University as the birthplace of the July revolution, stating, “We aim to build a dream campus free from discrimination, setting an example for the entire country.” He described the martyrs as a source of inspiration and committed to reaching out to their families, either in person or by phone, noting that the roughly 2,000 individuals who died in the July movement are considered family to the DUCSU leadership. The VP also expressed a vision to create a discrimination-free Bangladesh, in line with the martyrs’ legacy.
SM Farhad, the elected General Secretary (GS) from the same panel, added that their official work will commence after assuming responsibilities. “We are starting by remembering those who sacrificed their lives in the anti-fascist struggle,” he said, noting plans to visit the graves of both July and 1971 martyrs, many of whom remain unidentified. Farhad stressed the panel’s commitment to upholding the trust placed in them through actions that build a vibrant campus. Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Muhiuddin Khan and other leaders from the United Students’ Alliance were also present during the event.
