Outgoing Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus spent his final day in office on Tuesday (17 February), the day Tarique Rahman took oath as Prime Minister after BNP’s victory in the 13th National Parliament election. Multiple close sources confirmed to The Daily Campus that Dr. Yunus is expected to vacate the state guesthouse Jamuna and move to his personal residence in Gulshan as early as next week.

This timeline aligns with preparations for the new Prime Minister to shift into Jamuna, though some renovation work may take up to two months according to Public Works Department sources.

Dr. Yunus assumed the role of Chief Adviser on 8 August 2024 following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in the July mass uprising. After 559 days in office, he formally stepped down on Tuesday.

During the day, he held separate courtesy meetings with several foreign representatives attending the new government’s oath ceremony. After Tarique Rahman took oath at the South Plaza of Parliament in the afternoon, Dr. Yunus’s position was abolished, and he returned to Jamuna without state protocol.

Sources indicate Dr. Yunus plans to return to his previous professional life, including overseeing Grameen University, which received approval as Bangladesh’s 116th private university on 17 March. He is expected to focus on academic and social work moving forward.
