Salahuddin Ahmed visits Jamaat candidate’s home after campaign launch
BNP standing committee member and former minister Salahuddin Ahmed has formally launched his election campaign in his constituency by visiting the residence of Jamaat-e-Islami’s MP candidate Abdullah Al Faruk for a courtesy call and enquiring about his family.
The former minister began his campaign on Tuesday morning (2 December) by visiting the grave of Alim Peer Abdul Hai (R.) at Khutakhali in Chakaria. He was accompanied by his wife and former MP Hasina Ahmed, local BNP leaders and workers, and over a hundred activists from the party’s associate bodies.
After the ziyarat, he inaugurated the Khutakhali Union BNP office. He then conducted door-to-door campaigning and sought votes for the Sheaf of Paddy symbol in areas including Hajipara, Schoolpara, Muslim Bazar, Uttar Medha, Kachhapia, Dulahazara and Fasiyakhali.
In the evening, Salahuddin Ahmed addressed a public meeting at Fasiyakhali High School ground as the chief guest. He said the Sheaf of Paddy is the symbol of people’s trust and that the public would ensure BNP’s victory with a huge margin of votes. He urged party leaders and workers to play a more active role in implementing the party’s announced 31-point programme.
After his speech, he led a special munajat seeking complete recovery and good health for BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. During the prayer, he described her as “my leader, the leader of the country’s masses, and the symbol of Bangladesh’s democracy, independence and sovereignty”.
Following the day’s campaigning, Salahuddin Ahmed visited the residence of Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate for the constituency, Abdullah Al Faruk. He expressed deep condolences over the death of the candidate’s father and enquired about the well-being of the family. Local people have appreciated the courtesy shown by the senior BNP leader.
Earlier, as part of a five-day tour, he arrived in Cox’s Bazar by air from Dhaka at 10 am. According to the itinerary signed by his press secretary Md Safwanul Karim, he will continue intensive campaigning and public contact in Chakaria and Pekua areas until 7 December.
