Education Adviser Prof Dr CR Abrar has pledged to shape madrasa education into a contemporary, practical and modern form. He made these remarks as the chief guest at the event marking the 246th founding anniversary of Government Madrasah-e-Alia on Wednesday (1 October). He stated that madrasa education system will foster a blend of religious and modern education.

Recalling the history of the historic institution established in 1780, the education adviser said in his speech that madrasa education is a vital pillar of the country's education system. Lakhs of students receive education here and contribute to various sectors of society and the state. On the occasion of completing 246 years, Government Alia Madrasa must be transformed into a more modern and prestigious institution. It is not just an educational establishment; it is the custodian of our history, heritage and knowledge.

He said, "We want to build this education system in a contemporary, practical and modern form. In the tradition of madrasa education, logic, astronomy, scientific pursuits and religious studies coexisted. We aim to revive this stream by creating an integrated form with modern science and technology alongside religious education. Religious education will undoubtedly remain the centrepiece of madrasa education, but to enhance students' employability, elements of modern education must be incorporated. To this end, the ministry has taken up multiple projects."

In his speech, the adviser assured quick resolution of various issues including teacher shortages, infrastructural limitations, students' accommodation problems, safe drinking water and transport crises. At the same time, praising the involvement of alumni, he said their participation can play a significant role in the development of educational institutions. Alongside the state, society too must come forward to contribute to the progress of these historic institutions.

In his speech, the education adviser reiterated the government's firm commitment to ensuring the right to live with respect and dignity for people of all religions and professions, and called for communal harmony and tolerance. He said, "In society, empathy and rational thinking, not division, will guide us. By embracing science and technology with religious beliefs, we can contribute as advanced and capable citizens to the country and society."

The event, chaired by Government Alia Madrasa Principal Mohammad Obaidul Haque, was attended by special guest Religious Adviser Dr AF M Khalid Hossain and Technical and Madrasa Education Division Secretary Muhammad Rafiqul Islam.
