Ending a long wait for thousands of healthcare professionals, the Ministry of Public Administration has officially issued the final recruitment gazette for the 48th Special BCS (Health) Cadre today. According to the notification issued this afternoon, a total of 3,263 candidates have been formally appointed to various entry-level posts in the Bangladesh Civil Service (Health) cadre.

This gazette marks the successful conclusion of a fast-tracked recruitment process that began in early 2025 to address the critical shortage of doctors in the country’s public health system.

See the Final Gazette Here.

Journey of the 48th Special BCS

The 48th Special BCS was designed specifically to bolster the medical workforce. Here is a timeline of the key milestones:

  • Circular Publication: May 29, 2025 (Initial vacancies: 2,700 Assistant Surgeons and 300 Assistant Dental Surgeons).

  • Application Period: June 1 to June 25, 2025.

  • Written/MCQ Exam: July 18, 2025 (Conducted for 200 marks).

  • PSC Final Recommendation: September 11, 2025.

  • Final Gazette/Appointment: January 22, 2026.

The Final Numbers

Although the initial circular was for 3,000 posts, the final recruitment count has seen an increase. The Ministry confirmed that:

  • Total Candidates Appointed: 3,263.

  • Cadres Included: Assistant Surgeons and Assistant Dental Surgeons.

The newly appointed doctors are expected to join their respective postings shortly, which will significantly alleviate the pressure on upazila and district-level hospitals. Health Ministry sources indicate that this recruitment is part of a larger reform to fill the approximately 12,980 vacant doctor positions across the country.

Next Steps for Appointees

The Ministry of Public Administration and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will soon release specific instructions regarding:

  1. Joining Date: The official date by which the doctors must report to their assigned stations.

  2. Posting Orders: Detailed district-wise and hospital-wise placement lists.

  3. Orientation: Potential foundation training or orientation programs for the new cadre officers.

The "48th Special BCS (Health) Recommended Doctors' Forum" has welcomed the move, noting that many candidates had left private jobs or paused higher medical studies (FCPS/MD) in anticipation of this gazette.
