Northern Bangladesh is shivering under intense winter conditions as Tetulia in Panchagarh recorded the country’s lowest temperature near 10 degrees Celsius for the fourth consecutive day.

Life in the region has almost come to a standstill due to biting winds since the first week of December. Day labourers and low-income people are suffering the most, finding it extremely difficult to leave for work in the bone-chilling early morning cold.

In Dhaka, the chill has become more pronounced. The minimum temperature fell from 18 degrees Celsius on Monday morning to 16.8 degrees Celsius today, according to the 120-hour forecast issued by the Meteorological Department on Tuesday (9 December).

Tetulia recorded 10.4 degrees Celsius at 6 am today – the same as Monday, which remains the season’s lowest so far. Though dense fog was absent, light mist was visible at dawn. Sunshine appeared as the day progressed but brought little warmth.

Yesterday’s maximum temperature in the area was 27.2 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than the previous day’s 26.7 degrees Celsius.
