Education Adviser Professor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar has rejected the demand for nationalization of MPO-registered educational institutions, stating that an interim government lacks the authority to implement such a complex policy, which should be addressed by an elected government. However, he expressed preliminary agreement with other demands raised by the Nationalization Aspirant Alliance, assuring their phased implementation during a meeting with teachers on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Multiple teachers present at the meeting confirmed these statements to The Daily Campus.

Abrar emphasized that nationalization is a challenging issue beyond the interim government’s capacity. “The government will consider the teachers’ other demands, which are justified, and we assure their gradual implementation,” he said. The meeting, attended by the Education Minister and relevant stakeholders, discussed the universal transfer policy and the issue of increasing house rent allowances. The Education Ministry requested proposals from teachers on how to enhance house rent allowances, which the teachers agreed to submit after further deliberation. The ministry assured continued discussions to address house rent increases and other issues. A source indicated that preliminary approval for the teachers’ demands has been secured, with gradual implementation expected.

A proposal to double house rent allowance from Tk 1,000 to Tk 2,000 and medical allowance from Tk 500 to Tk 1,000 has been sent to the Finance Ministry. Meanwhile, MPO teachers have issued a one-month ultimatum, setting September 14, 2025, as the deadline for their demands, including nationalization and transfers. Failure to comply will lead to a nationwide full-day strike across all MPO-registered institutions starting September 15, 2025.
