Current Education System Increasing Unemployment: Education Minister
Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haq Milon has stated that the existing education system is contributing to rising unemployment in Bangladesh. He made the remark as chief guest at a discussion meeting organized by the Primary Teachers Training Institute (PTI) in Dhaka on Saturday (21 February) to mark Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day.
The minister questioned whether the education ministry is a factory for creating or reducing unemployment. He stressed the need to move away from a system that increases joblessness and build an effective, practical education framework instead. He emphasized that primary education must adopt more logical teaching methods, with greater focus on hands-on learning for children.
Dr. Milon highlighted the issue of corruption in education, stating that institutions receiving government MPO funds must ensure students pass exams. He asked whether funds become haram if no students pass despite receiving government money. He added that moral corruption, not just financial, must be eliminated from educational institutions.
The minister also spoke on the spirit of Ekushey, saying it must be established in professional life. Bangla should be used effectively, and decisions must be made on which second language to prioritize alongside the mother tongue.
State Minister for Education Bobby Hajjaj said proper education delivery is essential for nation-building. He called for consistent implementation of world-class education across the country.
