Awami-Leaning Teachers Offer Shaheed Minar Tribute Under DU Teachers Association Amid Controversy
A group of temporarily suspended Awami-leaning teachers from Dhaka University (DU), led by the Blue Panel faction of the DU Teachers Association, paid floral tribute to language martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar. They also placed wreaths at the martyrs' graves in Azimpur graveyard. The program was conducted under the banner of the DU Teachers Association, led by Professor A.K.M. Jamal Uddin, with no visible obstruction.
Among those present were suspended teachers Professor Jinat Huda (former general secretary of the association), Professor M. Ohiduzzaman, Professor Hafizur Rahman Karzon (who was on bail under anti-terrorism laws during the interim government), and Professor Mahbubur Rahman Litu, along with several other Blue Panel members. This was the first public activity seen under the Teachers Association banner since 5 August 2024.
Professor A.K.M. Jamal Uddin, who led the program, was briefly detained by Dhanmondi police on 15 February while attempting to place flowers at Dhanmondi 32. He was later released. Earlier in December, he was chased out of campus by DUCSU Social Service Secretary A.B. Jubayer and others.
