The government is set to sign a contract with China for establishing a military drone factory. Bangladesh will sign a Tk 608 crore deal with China for the factory setup. This was reported by The Business Standard.

According to a report in the English daily The Business Standard, Bangladesh is planning a government-to-government (G2G) agreement with China to set up a military drone factory in order to enhance the country's air defence capabilities.

Before the formal signing of the contract, the Finance Ministry approved the related project proposal on January 6. For such projects, approval from the chief adviser is given after the ministry's clearance.

The project, costing Tk 608.08 crore, will involve Tk 570.60 crore for importing the relevant technology and setting up the drone factory. The remaining Tk 37.47 crore will cover LC opening charges, VAT and SWIFT charges.

When approached for comment, Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed declined to make any statement.

According to the proposal, the Bangladesh Air Force will implement the project using technology supplied by China Electronics Technology Group Corporation International.
